first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Margaret “Peggy” Kane, a well-known Wilmington resident, passed away in her sleep last night.Kane, a retired public school teacher, served on the Wilmington School Committee for nearly 18 years, including as Chair from 2007 to 2016.  The Massachusetts Association of School Committees awarded Kane with its Lifetime Achievement Award in the fall, a few months after she stepped down from the School Committee in June due to health issues.“My time on the School Committee has been truly gratifying,” Kane said at the time. “I enjoyed being part of the education of Wilmington’s children.”Kane’s involvement in the Town of Wilmington was extensive. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on the community and its residents.Among the highlights, Kane was a strong supporter of the Wilmington Memorial Library, serving as the President of its Friends of the Library from 2009 to 2018. She volunteered regularly at the Book Store Next Door.  She was also an active member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, Wilmington Senior Center, several local book clubs, and other community organizations.Kane prioritized her family above all else — her late husband Dennis; her daughter Stacey, son-in-law Robert, and grandchildren Jared and Madison; daughter Catherine and granddaughter Margaret; and son Andrew and daughter-in-law Denise.Wilmington Apple will have more on Kane’s passing in the coming days.Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook.
