first_imgSecurity forces gunned down two alleged members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) in Bijapur district of south Chhattisgarh on Friday morning.“The district police and the Central Reserve Police Force’s CoBRA 204th battalion were conducting a joint anti-Maoist operation under Gangaloor police station limits of Bijapur today. At around 7.30 am, the Maoists fired some rounds at our troops near Manduvandi-Kowadegoan forest area. Our troops retaliated the fire immediately. During the search of the area (after the encounter), two dead bodies in Maoist uniform were recovered,” said a police official.The deceased, who are yet to be identified, include a woman. The security forces also recovered one 303 rifle, one 12-bore rifle and one pistol from the site of the encounter.According to sources, the encounter was not a chance one but an intelligence-based operation.last_img
